Ada fenomena yang menarik, bila melihat perkembangan dunia praktek, dokter hewan praktek di Indonesia, khususnya praktek hewan kesayangan. Pada tahun 90-an, para lulusan dokter hewan tidak banyak yang melirik dan menekuni dunia praktek. Baru pada akhir 90-an, karena krisis ekonomi dan mengakibatkan banyak perusahaan juga mengalami kesulitan keuangan sehingga rekrutmen pegawai baru juga menjadi sangat dibatasi atau dipertimbangkan. Selain yang sudah bekerja dipaksa dengan tuntutan pekerjaan yang pada akhirnya membuat banyak pegawai keluar atau dikeluarkan dari pekerjaan. Akibatnya adalah para dokter hewan ini akhirnya mengambil langkah atau mengambil keputusan untuk “kembali ke kandang”, kembali pada habitatnya semula yaitu sebagai “dokter”. Sehingga mulai tahun tersebut mulai banyak dokter hewan yang baru lulus berusaha menjadi “dokter” alias praktek dokter hewan. Dan sejak itu pula, dunia praktisi mulai maju pesat dan berkembang.
